Manuel did say that maybe 90% of the sensors would work with the 2016 software. So even though the G2 was released as an early 2017 vehicle, we still have to wait upwards of 6 months to get the deep G2-specific PIDs that we'd like. Apparently the auto manufacturers don't release the specifics of any new or updated PIDs until November of the model year. There's homework to do yet.Ĭlick to expand.UPDATE: I spoke with Manuel at AutoEnginuity on the phone. There are no ratings on its site and I'm not sure it's sold anywhere else. Maybe a group buy would bring down the price? I've hardly scratched the surface on researching this product. And there's no getting around that it costs almost $500.

I'm not sure whether that's for updating or whether the PC is required to take readings too. Getting square on this point will require a phone call to the company to find out whether they've added G2 support or plan to add it soon. The scan tool also requires a Windows PC. I'd be willing to bet that many of the parameters will work just fine on the G2 as is. The other catch is that there is no stated support for the 2017 Ridgeline on their website. But you want Honda specific codes? Feast your eyes on this list, which, by the way, seems to offer on/off states for the VCM.

E108 costs $229, but I believe it's add-on software that goes with a required AutoEnginuity scan tool that costs another $250. I may have found something that's more affordable, possibly within reach for a few of us.ĪutoEngenuity's E108 covers most Honda and Acura vehicles, 1996 to 2016 - including the Ridgeline. The following is some information from obdcon about non-standard PIDs, that is, custom PIDs developed by manufacturers. To get a fuller understanding of how this all works, check out. So why don't OBDII scanners readily have Honda specific PIDs? The answer is that Honda charges an annual amount of $5000 according to the obdcon website to each tool company that wants to access these codes. I'll keep looking, but I don't think we're going to find anything low-cost that has what were looking for.

I know, I know you're not even willing to spend $70.

But this manufacturer, which sells professional tools for mechanics, may be the best bet for getting at the information we're talking about. And the page that would list the parameter IDs for Honda is mysteriously down, a broken link. This isn't realistic for us because it's $1150. One of the tools that I'm looking at is AutoTel's MaxiSys MS906. And they are probably only sold to dealerships and possibly some independent mechanics. The Honda tool requires software licenses the cost over $1000 a year. And yet these are the high-end tools that are out there. There is no mention of Honda specific PIDs that I can find related to these products, which are recommended to mechanics by this particular website. This Honda-specific OBDII scanner article gives you an example of the kinds of things I'm finding.

I did get my money back, but I bet a lot of people don't bother. The Amazon ratings showed that most people who posted had the same problem I did or something like it. I actually bought the product myself and could not get it to work, and so returned it. The product is now sold by a different company under a different name and has terrible ratings.

And remember to update the software just before the one year mark to get the latest and greatest for free.I did some poking around after my last post and found what I believe is the scanner that I was referring to that claims to support Honda-specific OBDII parameter IDs (PIDs), colloquially known as commands.

I am pretty sure the software has everything pre-installed just the code unlocks it for you. And if I am not mistaken, when you buy the enhanced version you only get the code to unlock the enhancements. Usually the vendors are a little cheaper than dealing with AE directly. With the basic OBD II you can read MAP, Speed, and RPM's, that is it! If you were to use it on a gasser you would be able to read much more.Īll in all it is well worth the money to get it! Buy the $130 one off of ebay, then order the enhanced version off of AE's website or through a vendor. Since the PSD is an International engine in a Ford truck almost everything is manufacture specific. What you need the enhanced version for is to read manufacture specific codes and sensors. I have used my AE on multiple brands and it works fine.
